The goal of the Fluoride Yes! Campaign is to promote the health and wellbeing of every Calgarian, and especially Calgary’s children, seniors and other health-vulnerable residents, by encouraging voters to vote Yes in the fluoridation plebiscite question in the municipal election on October 18, 2021.

Fluoridation means topping up the already occurring natural amounts in Calgary’s water supply to address the significant and serious decline in our children’s oral health.  Fluoride is the negative ion of fluorine, an element that is a beneficial nutrient. Calgary water naturally contains fluoride but in insufficient amounts to be therapeutic. The recommended therapeutic amount of fluoridation in the drinking water is 0.7 parts per million.

Calgarians favoured community water fluoridation in the two recent plebiscites (1989 and 1998).

Community water fluoridation reduces dental decay by at least 25%. Dental decay is the most common chronic disease of childhood (5 times more common than asthma).  Children with untreated dental decay can have difficulty eating, sleeping, growing, playing, concentrating and attending school.  To prevent dental decay safely and effectively, community water fluoridation is recommended by Alberta Health Services, the Public Health Agency of Canada and the US Centers for Disease Control, among every other major public health, dental and medical organization in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Fluoride Yes! has filed for registration as a Third-Party Advertiser under the Local Authorities Election Act (Alberta) to advocate in the plebiscite for fluoridation.
