Everyone in Calgary can benefit from community water fluoridation, especially our neighbours who are from priority populations. These include our children, youth, seniors, people living with disabilities, First Nations members, new Canadians, and people who are economically disadvantaged. Evidence-based research has found that fluoride decreases dental decay by approximately 25% in children and adults.
A recent study suggests that when community water fluoridation was removed from Calgary's drinking water in 2011, dental decay increased in just three years by 146%. This rise was much more than in Edmonton, which has maintained its fluoridated water supply. Tragically, many young children in Calgary undergo general anaesthesia for dental surgery in the hospital. Tooth decay remains the most common disease of childhood; it is five times more common than asthma.
Our goal at FluorideYes is to help Calgary return to water fluoridation. Our diverse team includes oral health professionals, medical school professors, physicians, lawyers, businesspersons, and ordinary citizens who want to make a positive difference. We are working hard to win the hearts and minds of Calgarians by offering evidence-based information so people can make an informed decision on October 18th, 2021.
Please VOTE YES to fluoride! You can make a difference! Your voice matters; please join us in the campaign to reinstate Calgary's community water fluoridation!
